Examination of The Persuaders
The following essay is a summation of the OPB documentary The Persuaders, a journalistic inquiry into the background global effects of marketing and big advertising. The film clarifies the process of creating an psychological brand, and identifies the impacts it has on society. The narrator closes the film which has a statement to the audience: Regardless of how well a product is sold, it's not just a part of you, it's only a product.
The Persuaders starts by pessimistically giving the group a brief history of promoting strategies. All of us learn that advertising and brand establishment was a quite cut-and-dry scientific research until the 1990's when an epiphany shook the paradigm; supplying meaning into a product. The effects of this trend are displayed in the film through Song Airlines, a fresh start-up battling to market effectively. They make a decision on an advertising trick; appealing to women on an mental level. Their particular commercials no longer feature any kind of airplanes, traveling, or men.
I don't enjoy the film's lack of journalistic integrity. Advertisers are seen as guerrilla terrorists, and the complete documentary attempts to condition us into having an opinion that marketing is cluttering the first universe and deculturalizing society. OPB could have been much more00 neutral inside their presentation.
I actually don't privately consider the techniques described in this video to be an invasion of anyone's privacy. I think a few consumers may be manipulated in emotionally discovering with a brand or merchandise. It's to the individual to understand that and infer if it's organic for them or not.
